11 Essential Oil Uses that You Need to Know

Holisticole - 11 Essential Oil Uses That You Need to Know About

Essential oils are of extreme value to us. As a Certified Holistic Nutritionist, who is passionate for vibrant health - these tips are coming from my most-trusted essential oil source, The Aromatherapist. The Owner, and Master Botanist, Bonita - shared with me several years ago how effective Helichrysum Oil is for dark spots on the skin - since then my blog post How to Even Out Your Skin Tone and Banish those Pesky Dark Spots for Good has provided so many positive results for my readers.

Bonita's tips are not common knowledge, so when this article was published, I inevitably felt the need to share these extremely valuable essential oil uses, from the master Aromatherapist.

Cold Sores

Apply a drop of Melissa Essential Oil to the affected area at the first sign of a cold sore

Blind/Cystic Pimple

Mix 2 drops of Rosemary Highland into a teaspoon of Green Clay. Blend the Clay/Rosemary Mixture with just enough water to create a paste. Apply the paste over the blind pimple and leave on overnight

Dandruff

After you’ve washed your hair, place 1-2 drops of Geranium Rose on your fingertips and massage into your scalp. Repeat this as needed to keep dandruff at bay

Thinning, Lusterless Hair

Place 2-4 drops of Rosemary Highland into the palm of your hand and rub the bristles of your hairbrush in it. Brush your hair from the roots to tips. Repeat daily for best results

Uncomfortable Gas/Bloating

Take 1 drop of Certified Organic Sweet Fennel* in a tsp of local honey

*If you're planning to ingest essential oils, ensure they are safe and 3rd party Certified Organic (read this article for more information)

Over-Heating and Hot Flashes

Keep a bottle of Peppermint Hydrosol in your fridge and spritz yourself in times of need

Swollen & Itchy Insect Bites

In a 10 ml roll-on bottle, combine 5 ml Witch Hazel, 1 ml German Chamomile and 4 ml Highland Lavender. Apply to affected areas as soon as possible after you’ve been bitten

Tired, Puffy Eyes & Dark Circles

In a 30 ml jar, combine 5 drops Rosemary Highland & 3 drops Helichrysum with Aloe Vera Gel. Keep in the fridge and apply around the eye area as needed, avoid direct contact with the eyes

Heartburn

Take 1 drop of Certified Organic Cardamom in a tsp of Honey.

*If you're planning to ingest essential oils, ensure they are 3rd party Certified Organic (read this article for more information)

Wrinkled Clothes & No time to iron

Spritz clothing and/or linens liberally with Rose Bulgarian Hydrosol, shake and smooth the wrinkles out and allow a few moments to hang dry (or blow dry if you’re pressed for time).

Chronic Sty in the Eye

Create a spritzer to use on eye compresses (essential oils should never come in direct contact with the eyes). Combine a small squirt of natural baby shampoo with 2 drops Rosemary Highland and 2 drops Helichrysum essential oils at the bottom of a 30 ml spray bottle. Fill the bottle with either Witch Hazel, Helichrysum Hydrosol or Distilled Water. Shake well.

To use:

  • First, gently & carefully cleanse the eye area with a natural baby shampoo

  • Soak two cotton pads with your Spritzer and gently lay them over closed eyes**. Place a heat pad or heated eye compress overtop

**Be mindful not to get essential oil in the eye.
