Rustic Spelt Crust Pizza (Yeast-Free)
Makes 3-4 servings
What you need:
1 ½ cups sprouted spelt flour
1 tsp aluminum free baking powder
1 tsp aluminum free baking soda
½ tsp fine himalayan salt
¼ cup water
4 tbsp avocado oil or olive oil
Tomato sauce or pesto of choice
Shredded raw cow's milk cheese
Toppings of choice
What to do:
-Preheat your oven to 425 decrease F and lightly oil a pizza stone (or a baking sheet).
-For the crust, stir together the flour, baking powder/soda and salt in a medium bowl. In another small bowl, beat the egg with a fork and stir in the water and oil.
-Add the wet ingredients to the dry and stir until they form a ball of dough. Add any extra flour as needed to prevent sticking to the bowl, knead the dough in the bowl for 2-4 minutes.
-Next, you can choose to either lightly flour your work surface - OR - you can be like me and take the easy no-mess road of rolling out your dough between two sheets of parchment paper.
-Roll out the dough, using either method, and ensure the dough is slightly larger than your pizza stone or baking sheet. Once evenly rolled out, carefully transfer the dough onto the prepared pizza stone or baking sheet and press down any overhanging edges to form a crust.
-Brush some oil on the formed pizza crust (this prevents the toppings from baking into the crust).
-Top as desired and bake for 20 minutes or until the edges are golden.
